Tessler Appointed to National Performance Group

Oren Tessler, MD, MBA, Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, has been selected to serve on the Autologous Breast Reconstruction Performance Measures Work Group of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The group of experts will develop performance measures for autologous breast reconstruction over the next year. Autologous reconstruction is a type of surgery that uses the patient’s own tissue to reconstruct the breast rather than implants.

The Autologous Breast Reconstruction Clinical Practice Guideline was approved by the ASPS Executive Committee in December 2016. To help implement the recommendations in that guideline and to add additional plastic surgery-specific measures to meet CMS/QPP quality reporting requirements for those reporting via the ASPS QCDR, a work group was organized to determine the appropriate performance measure guidelines for upcoming changes to Medicare and national programs.
Dr. Oren Tessler
There was significant interest, and the final work group was carefully selected. The group consists of ten plastic surgeons from around the country. Tessler was chosen to join this prestigious work group along with representatives from Harvard, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Liaisons from the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and two patient representatives are also participating.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world. Founded in 1931, the Society represents 94% of all board-certified plastic surgeons in the U.S. and more than a thousand plastic surgeons worldwide, making ASPS a global institution and leading authority on cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. The mission of ASPS is to advance quality care to plastic surgery patients by encouraging high standards of training, ethics, physician practice and research in plastic surgery.

After completing a fellowship in reconstructive aesthetic breast surgery at Harvard Medical School, Tessler joined the LSU Health New Orleans faculty in 2013. Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Tessler specializes in breast reconstruction, microsurgery and migraine surgery.
